A review is underway by the Miami Police Department after a video circulated on social media showing a violent altercation between a fan and a cop during a University of Miami football game on Sunday.

In the video, Bridget Freitas, a 30-year-old nurse, is seen being wrangled and escorted from the stadium by four cops after allegedly causing a ruckus in the stands. As they carry her out, Freitas backhand-slaps an officer. He retaliates by punching Freitas in the face.

The police affidavit states Freitas, who has been charged with battery of a police officer, struck the male cop “in the face while attempting to get away, causing the detective to strike Freitas in her face to gain compliance and control,” according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Prior to the altercation, she was “arguing with stadium patrons and using profanity in a loud boisterous manner,” according to a police affidavit.

The name of the detective who punched Freitas has not been released.

Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta wrote in an email Sunday that the department will review the video to ensure the officers followed proper procedure, the New York Daily News reported.

Freitas has not commented on the incident.
